Big Joe Turner Picture
If late 50's music could be said to have had a renaissance man, then Big Joe Turner would be that man. Called the "Words Greatest Blue Shouter", the "Boss of the Blues", he was proclaimed the Best New Male Singer by Melody Maker in 1956. Esquire crowned him the Best Male Vocalist in an All-American Band and in 1965 he won the Critic's Poll in Britian's Jazz Journal for Top Male Singer. R&B, Jazz, Blues and off course Rock and Roll. Writer and first recorder of the immortal "Shake, Rattle, And Roll", Joe was nice enough to allow a friend and tourmate, Bill Haley, to record the song.
